Finally escaping an overcrowded house, a rescued cat, accompanied by a look-alike kitten, embarks on a new life after a long-awaited chance at happiness.

A cat who was found in a crowded house with her look-alike kitten, now has a new lease on life after months of waiting.

Early this year, Stefany and Johanne, local animal rescuers from Montreal, Canada, came to the aid of a cat and a kitten from a hoarding situation.

Zara, a 7-year-old tortoiseshell, was found along with her kitten Zeeta, who was just four months old. They had been living in a house with over 40 other cats.

The mother and daughter were just skin and bones and in need of medical attention. Stefany and Johanne took them into their care and saved them just in time.

Their local rescue, Chatons Orphelins Montréal, stepped up to provide assistance. “Zara had lost two underdeveloped babies, and her third kitten, Zeeta, who shared a spitting image of her, survived thanks to their rescuers,” Chatons Orphelins Montréal shared with Love Meow.

“Zara also came with a head tilt due to an ear infection that had gone on without treatment for too long. Both mother and daughter were then treated for ringworm for several weeks.”

With proper care, good food, and a clean environment, Zeeta the kitten was putting on weight like a champ, and bursting with energy.

While the kitten was getting more playful by the day, Zara cherished every quiet moment she could get.

It was clear from the beginning that Zara was a people-cat. She preferred being the center of attention and was more than ready to retire from motherhood after having litter after litter for many years.

Zara followed her foster family around the house and insisted on being near them at all times.

“She will not hesitate to let you know when she needs your immediate attention, and she doesn’t tolerate closed doors,” the rescue shared.

When her foster family came home from work, Zara greeted them by the door, telling them about her day. They found her next to them at night, purring herself to sleep

“Zara became very cuddly and affectionate and would roll on her back whenever she wanted a hug.”

The sweet tortie cat entrusted her last kitten to her humans, so she could fully enjoy being loved and spoiled as a house cat, and have all the attention to herself.

After living in close quarters with over 40 cats, she was so happy to have the space, comfort, and peace and quiet she’d always wanted.

Zeeta the kitten quickly found her forever home when she was up for adoption. Month after month, momma Zara continued to anticipate the right family to find her way.

“Zara has made a full recovery but will likely live with a slight head tilt for the rest of her life—she doesn’t mind it at all. She is so easy-going and gives head bonks for attention and pets,” the rescue shared.

Nearly 10 months after Zara was rescued, she finally had her dream come true. A loving family fell head over heels for the sweet tortie and adopted her just in time for the holidays.

“Zara loves to bask in the sun by the window while she watches the squirrels. She needs to be close to her people, so she can rub her head on them for snuggles,” the rescue shared.

“She now has a family to give her all the cuddles she’ll ever need. We are so happy for her!”
