The dog had no food or water to fight the cold in the snow until he was rescued 😢🙏

ast weeƙ, as temρeratures dropped below freezing, a pit bull mix named Emmy found herself outside and alone. Abandoned by her family in Ecorse, Michigan, during a blizzard, the scared senior pup had no choice but to curl up in a ball for warmth and hope that somebody would find her.

An emaciated senior dog is lucky to be alive after she was abandoned in the freezing cold just before Christmas. Emmy is believed to have been dumped from a car and left outside in the below zero temperatures in Michigan.

She’s believed to have spent a day and a half curled up in a ball before rescuers with Friends Of The River Rouge Animal Shelter were alerted and came to her rescue. They found Emmy blanketed by snow.

“Animals are freezing to death outside in this weather,” Friends Of The River Rouge Animal Shelter posted on Facebook. “We were lucky to be alerted to one such dog yesterday in time to save her, but she wouldn’t have lasted much longer.”

P.O.E.T. Animal Rescue swooped in to help the shelter and rushed Emmy to the ER vet and look after the poor senior dog, thought to be around 8 to 9 years old. “We cannot imagine the confusion, heartbreak and bitter coldness this girl has endured,” they wrote on Facebook.

Emmy had been rescued on December 23 in the morning, but by that afternoon she was snuggled under a blanket with the vets trying to stabilize her and warm her up.

“This morning she was curled up & covered in snow trying to stay warm & alive. Look at sweet Emmy now resting comfortably at the ER vet & relieved she’s not out in the frigid temps anymore,” P.O.E.T. Animal Rescue shared. “She is maintaining her body temp – a big victory! She is also the nicest girl.”

An examination revealed Emmy was emaciated, needs a lot of dental work and has skin issues. She appears to have pressure sores, indicating she was kept in a cage for a long time. She is also unsteady on her feet. On the positive side, she’s heartworm negative and lapping up the love and attention she’s getting.

After a day’s stay at the vet, Emmy showed a big improvement. “Her steadiness & mobility have improved but she is still walking slowly,” P.O.E.T wrote on Facebook. “She is very curious & enjoys being with people. She takes her food gently, knows ‘sit’, how to jump onto the sofa & climb into laps.”

Thankfully, Emmy didn’t have to spend Christmas alone. After being discharged from the vet, Emmy went to her foster home (with Alex and Chris) where she’s resting comfortably.

She enjoyed Christmas holidays in a cozy onesie and with Alex and Chris’ other dogs. P.O.E.T. wrote, “Last night she got a bath, jammies & slept in bed with her foster family. She didn’t move an inch all night – I’m sure she thought she was dreaming & scared to wake up… but this is your new life sweet girl!”

Now, heading into the New Year, P.O.E.T. Animal Rescue is wishing all the best for her and is grateful for the support from their followers. They shared a heartwarming New Year message about Emmy.

“Thank you all for supporting Emmy! Her journey is just beginning & she still has a long road to get healthy & well,” the said before following up, “Emmy is ending 2022 with wagon rides & sitting warm indoors wherever she fits (if she can fit, she sits). We cannot imagine how her 2022 was before rescue & are so happy she’s going into the New Year with us.”

Plans are fore Emmy to be available for foster again in a few weeks with the hopes that the next family becomes her forever home.
