It’s true what they say, love is blind.
This cat and dog duo are living proof that love and friendship can heal anything.
Spike, a mixed breed dog, and Max the cat are a team with an unbreakable bond. They are an unlikely pairing but remind us to enjoy life and keep our loved ones close.
In January, Max and Spike’s former family could no longer care for them and passed them to the Saving Grace Animal Society shelter in Alberta, Canada.
Amanda McClughan who works at the shelter, speaking to CBC News said that they had been living outside and huddled close to each other to stay warm, which is likely how their friendship started.
Spike had suffered painful cataracts which resulted in the sad loss of his eyes.
Amanda says that Max is more like a ‘support cat’ to Max, rather than guiding him around.
“Max just provides a level of comfort and support for him,” she said. “He can smell him, he can feel him, and so it’s kind of a way to bring his stress and keep his anxiety down.”
The shelter posted about the duo on their Facebook page in February, to try and find them a home.
“Max is the yin to Spikes yang,” they say in the post. “He is the constant that Spike has known throughout his life, and because of that, it’s imperative they be adopted together. Max is such a character and he’s sure to keep you laughing!”
This post resulted in thousands of shares and likes, finding them their forever home within the space of just 11 days.
The shelter updated its followers to say that Max and Spike have been adopted together by a lovely family in Manitoba.
“They are on their way home with their new mama,” the post says. “We are wishing the best of luck to this adorable duo.”
