A sad and heartfelt story about a 56-year-old man from Mexicali, Baja California, who lost his home to a raging fire and understood that his closest friend was what was truly important in life was shared on various social media platforms on January 7.
Despite having a hearing impairment that does not prevent him from being independent, the person known as Don Mario has had his own business for ten years, selling cups or covers for car tires.
Mario Alberto Méndez González lives alone with his cherished puppy after regrettably having to watch as his ancestry disappeared.
While Mario slept in the early morning hours, several residents of the sector were able to alert them to the fire, which appeared to have started in the room as a result of an electrical short. Thankfully, Don Mario was able to escape his burning house before it quickly spread to other parts of the structure.
His Nissan pickup, which was packed with merchandise and added to the fire’s intensity, was also consumed by flames.
Don Mario became frantic to save the life of his friend who was still inside the house as the neighbors waited for the fire department. The house had been almost entirely destroyed by the fire, but the neighbors prevented him from going inside to save it.
When the firefighters arrived, they found this dramatic scene as Don Mario, who was in a panic, began using a neighbor’s hose to douse the flames.

Mario had no desire for material goods; all he wanted was for them to benefit his best friend.
Express RGV stated on Facebook:
He signaled to the firefighters that his dog was his top priority and that they could save him.
Everyone at the time assumed the worst because it was highly unlikely that the animal would have survived, but the man never gave up.
Somehow, a firefighter came out of the house carrying Don Mario’s dog. When he saw it, he yelled at it, and the dog ran into his arms. He started crying as he held the puppy.
The image was taken by neighbor and photographer Jonathan Bobadilla, who later uploaded it online after receiving praise for it.
Despite all the monetary losses, what matters most in the story is that Don Mario and his dog made it through the catastrophe unharmed.
The images captured the goodness of Don Mario’s heart and the unwavering affection he has for his companion. People who saw the news and his neighbors quickly organized a number of fundraising events to help him.
