During the coldest months of last year’s winter Exploits Valley SPCA received a plea for help regarding a strawberry tabby mom who had managed to keep her babies alive in the bitterly cold temperatures.
Both the mom and her kittens were taken to safety, one kitten, however, proved to be more elusive and made a hasty escape.
Mom transformed into a very friendly cat once she moved indoors, her kittens were another story. “Her babies are semi-feral after being raised in the wild. They haven’t had human interaction,” said Exploits Valley SPCA.
While volunteers hunted for the elusive feline both his mom and shelter staff taught his two siblings how to trust and they soon found their forever homes.
After 20 days the highly elusive kitten was finally cornered and taken to safety. The long-haired tabby was extremely shy in his new surroundings, so careful care would need to be taken to help him learn to trust.
Understandably he was placed in his own room with his own nest and food where he could relax in peace and quiet and unwind. He was so ill at ease he refused to budge except to eat and drink.

Over time his foster mom introduced him to gentle pets on the head. At first, he was terrified, by gradually he began to accept and then seek out her attention.
Bobby McGee, as he was lovingly named, soon loved to be touched and sought out more and more attention.
That being the case he was happily given more and more cuddles.
His eyes changed from fearful to loving and trustful, and longing looks were accompanied by purrs.
Soon a confident kitten emerged.
“He was scared when he arrived at the shelter but has quickly settled into his foster home, purring up a storm and loving every bit of attention he can get.”
“Usually kittens caught later are even more feral due to surviving outside,” Exploits Valley SPCA said.
“He is making up for lost time. He absolutely loves attention, even reaches out for more.”

Bobbie is now looking for a forever family of his own.
A home where his new family will receive a lot of love.
“Bobbie is looking for a quiet home that will give him lots of attention.”
