Owner Got A Cat In 1988, Did Not Expect To Throw Him A Birthday Party 30 Years Later, Making Him The Oldest Cat In The World

Meet Rubble, the “oldest cat in the world!” Rubble is an eye popping 30-year-old British kitty that lives in Exeter, England. His owner, Michele Foster, got the ginger and white cat when he was a tiny kitten as a 20th birthday gift to herself in May of 1988.

What a gift he has been! The cat has been a wonderful companion for Michele all these years and she says he is very loving and loyal. She attributes his long life to lots of love and pampering, “like a child.”

Overall the cat has been relatively healthy but does have high blood pressure. He is taken care of medically by Dr. Shawn Moore of City Vets, who makes sure that he is stable and healthy. “Rubble is quite likely to be the oldest cat in the UK and is still going strong. He is on medication for his blood pressure but apart from that, he is in remarkably good health.” Said Dr. Moore.

When Michele was asked if she would enter Rubble into the Guinness World Records, she responded:

“He has plenty of life left in him yet, but I don’t think we will go down the Guinness World Record route as I am not sure he would like lots of people coming to see him or a fuss being made out of him. He is old now and would not like too much attention or be hassled. We would prefer if he was just left to live out his old age in peace.”

The previous Guinness Record oldest kitty record holder’s name was Cream Puff. Cream Puff lived 38 years and 3 days. Of course no one can predict how long the adorable Rubble will live but we do know that he will be spoiled by his owner until the day he crosses the bridge.

To give you an idea of how remarkable it is that the cat has survived this long, the average domestic house cat lives about 15 – 20 years. Outdoor cats live on an average of 2 – 9 years.

We wish Rubble a very happy 30th birthday all year long and hope he has many very healthy and happy days ahead!
