Fu Fu, a two-year-old short-haired cat, allegedly sobbed when his owner called out to him over the home monitor, according to his people.
Ms Meng, the cat’s owner, claimed she was checking on the animal on her phone using a surveillance app when she observed the ‘heartbreaking’ incident.
The 17-second video, which has over 8 million views, catapulted Fu Fu to social media fame, earning him the moniker “cat left behind.”
Ms Meng told MailOnline that she didn’t take Fu Fu because she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to adjust to her parents’ house.
Fu Fu is bashful and clinging, according to her, and she enjoys spending time with him.
Ms. Meng had provided adequate food and water for Fu Fu before his journey and was watching CCTV footage on a frequent basis to assure his safety.
‘Do you miss me?’ Ms. Meng is heard saying in the video. ‘I’ll be back in a few days,’ he adds.
When Ms. Meng’s voice is heard, Fu Fu turns to face the door before pawing at the camera.
“When I saw this, I was sad,” Ms. Meng admitted. She finally cut her trip short to return to Fu Fu, she claimed.
“I had intended to spend a week at my parents’ place, but we all returned to Xuzhou early,” he explained.
Ms. Meng posted a follow-up video on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, showing Fu Fu racing eagerly towards Ms. Meng once she returned home four days later.
