Alaskan Man Wakes Up Surprised To Find Lynx Family Playing On His Deck

Tim Newton of Alaska had woken up to the sound of commotion happening at his deck. After wandering out of bed and peaking outside of the window he noticed a lynx kitten with its eyes fixed on the playful kittens as they ran around his backyard, playing around.

As a photographer, he was really excited about this rare encounter and immediately grabbed his equipment to take some pictures of the lynx, which totaled seven kittens and mummy cat.

Lynx are the only cats in Alaska that are native. Full grown, they can get between two to three feet long and weigh fifteen to thirty pounds. They are naturally shy like other wild cats so it is pretty uncommon for them to be hanging out on a deck very close to humans. Mr. Newton was certainly lucky have the opportunity to have been able to observe them playing.

In his interview for The Dodo, he said: “It was right near dawn. I heard some noises; it was like something scrambling on the deck. Coming out of my slumber, I thought, ‘What the heck is that?’ So I put on my bathrobe and slowly eased back the curtain. And right there, 2 feet away, was a lynx kitten. He was sitting there watching his siblings race by.  They were running back and forth, pouncing on each other. I started snapping away. I thought, ‘Wow! What incredible luck. This just beats all. This is just wonderful!’”

When we saw the images, we thought they were also pretty wonderful as well. A lot of people seemed to love them, too. The images of the lynx family quickly went viral.

More information about our native wildlife can be seen on Tim’s website which is called Rugged Alaska and his FB page, Tim Newton Photography. He has taken more photographs of the lynx and other animals as they inhabit their natural habitat.

Tim had taken numerous pictures and amazingly enough not a single one disturbed the lynx, except for one kitten that approached the screen to see what was going on.

“I don’t know why I did this — maybe to say to him, ‘Oh, what a cute little kitty!’ — but I pulled the camera away from my face a little, and my eyes showed. The look of terror on that kitten’s face! His eyes were wide open, and he just flew away from me! But the others didn’t pick up on it.”

Forty minutes since the beginning of the session, the momma cat led her lovely kittens back into the forest. “They were indeed so cute” he said. “Simply adorable”

It would be great if you could share these wonderful pictures with your family and friends.
