It’s amazing to see how these street dogs are so conscious

Animal lovers’ hearts are being warmed by a sweet video that shows feral dogs scavenging for leftovers from a butcher shop. The video shows a cardboard box on the sidewalk containing a pile of raw poultry bones.

One by one, the dogs approach the box hesitantly and take only the bones they need. What’s remarkable is how polite and caring each dog is, carrying only one piece of bone.

In the video, an old Golden Retriever walks slowly to the box, grabs a bone, and walks away slowly. Another dog appears hesitant and cowers as he approaches, while another wags his tail happily, unable to believe his luck.

The video was initially shared on social media platforms by TikTok user @ugursa_ in March 2021, but the original video has been removed from TikTok. However, it has surfaced on Facebook and Reddit.

A lawyer living in Puerto Rico shared that stray dogs are intelligent and interact with many different people. Most of the dogs are shy, respectful, and learned not to enter people’s homes. The lawyer also observed a butcher handing out chicken carcasses, which are not the healthiest food for dogs but are their favorite. To most of these dogs, one chicken carcass can provide bones for two days and almost a meal. Therefore, these dogs are happy.

Some viewers expressed concern about feeding bones to dogs, but others pointed out that cooked bones pose a greater risk as they can crumble and cause internal damage. The bones discarded by the good Samaritans were the backbone. A few viewers questioned whether the video was filmed in Turkey. One Redditor confirmed that the video was indeed shot in Turkey, as they recognized the logo on the cardboard box as belonging to a Turkish company.

According to another Redditor, feral cats and dogs are treated well in most Turkish cities. The municipality checks and tags them before releasing them back to the same neighborhood they were picked up from. They also receive regular veterinary care. The Redditor also noted that many people leave food and water bowls for the strays, and many restaurants, butchers, and seafood markets provide scraps or feed the strays if they come looking for food.

As another researcher points out, cats basically run the city of Istanbul. They shared a personal anecdote of a cat nibbling on chicken fingers on their patio until the waiter identified the cat’s preferred sauce. While it’s heartwarming to see the strays well taken care of, it’s sad that they still have to sleep outside in the elements.

In another video, a dog eagerly wags its tail while waiting for a plate of food, indicating that this butcher has regulars.

The butcher in question is not the only one in Turkey with a big heart for animals. Ikram Korkmazer, also residing in Turkey, is an evident animal lover. His shop is often visited by dogs and cats searching for food. One of his videos went viral after featuring a cat leaning on his meat counter, asking for a treat, and amassing over a million views.

Korkmazer’s sidewalk also has several dogs patiently waiting for a snack or two or three.
